The first stage of an amplifier is usually the predominan source of noise in the output. If conventional controls are not optimumly adjusted, the mixer stage becomes a potential source of noise. This paper analyzes the conventional methods of signal mixing and presents a novel operational amplifier approach which promises 14 to 20 dB less noise at operating levels.
