Hierarchical Lossless Transmission of Surround Sound Using MLP

Known hierarchical methods of transmitting surround sound include the MSTBF hierarchy and the circular harmonic hierarchy. On a consumer disc, the channels could be `default speaker feeds` derived from hierarchical signals: we outline potential advantages of such a scheme. The MLP lossless compression system has several features that facilitate this approach and allow data rate savings where appropriate. In addition, lossless matrixing potentially allows interconversion between the various formats, without build-up of roundoff error.
