The dynamic range of audio programs is often larger than the reproduction dynamic range available at home or in a noisy environment. A dynamic range control system for multichannel audio systems (with 5.1, 3/2, or other compatible formats) using the ISO/MPEG-2 audio standard is proposed, which is mostly compatible with that standardized for the two-channel European DAB. It may be applicable to digital video broadcasting (DVB), multichannel digital audio broadcasting (DAB), or other transmission or storage systems of multichannel audio with or without accompanying picture.
