AB  - error terms arising from the interaction of tracing and tracking errors are calculated for general stylus shapes. The terms are seen to represent an alteration in the effective shape of the stylus profile. Implications for compensation are discussed, and the possibility of the groove wall contacting the conical part of the stylus surface is analyzed in an appendix.
