Steps in the development of a pickup cartridge, starting with results of listening tests to determine any relationship between subjective quality and tranducer type, are presented. Results of equivalent model and finite element analysis of mechanical components are compared with those measured using conventional measurement techniques as well as computer analysis of amplitude, phase and decay characteristic based on impulse signals. Finally the result of the preceeding work is discussed.
