Rethinking Frequency Response

Authors: Allen, William A.

AES Convention 72 · Paper 1916 · October 1982

Abstract

Traditional techniques for measuring the frequency response of audio systems are examined. Discrepancies between measurements and perceived frequency response are discussed, with emphasis on the measurement of signal-dependent systems and noise-reduction systems in particular. Methods for improving the correlation between subjective and objective measurements are presented.
