AB - A method is described for improved decoding of Reed-Solomon block data encoded in a C.I.R.C. (Cross Interleave Reed-Solomon Code). Using a new interpretation of the data flow, the encoded data is processed through several identical decoders without changing the data format. The result is a composite decoder consisting of several identical decoders operating in series. By using this method the input S.E.R. (Symbol Error Rate) can be increased by a factor of three above that of conventional decoders for equivalent output error rates.
