With the introduction of stereo audio to previously monophonic broadcast mediums in mind, an examination of appropriate stereo microphone techniques is presented. The paper is also applicable to experienced stereo broadcasters, who may be interested in some new applications discussed herein. The subjects of where and how to employ stereo are addressed in detail, for use in the broadcast of music, documentary/feature, and sports programs, with emphasis on the topics of mono compatibility, stereo imaging, M-S stereophony monitoring.
