In order to design a BODYSONIC system, which enhances response to music energy not only through hearing but also by vibration through the body, it was necessary to develop a means of measuring the vibration sensitivity of the human body. An anthropomorphic model which has an artificial skin with a bio-mechanical response characteristic has been designed. Using this model, it becomes possible to measure the acceleration response characteristics of BODYSONIC transducers at the surface of the model. Various studies on the vibration perception of human bodies have been made as far back as the 30`s and an evaluation method has been developed as ISO document 2631. Equal sensation contours of vibration have been tentatively established. These may be compared with equal loudness contours of the sensation of hearing. Most studies done so far on vibration perception are concerned with the entire body. Very little experimentation on localized areas of the body has been made until recently. Threshold and equal sensation contours using sinusoidal vibration will be shown for several locations on the surface of the body.
