AB - In order to achieve satisfactory listening conditions in different listening environments - for example in a quiet home listening environment or in a noisy car, with high or low listening level - the dynamic range of radio programs have to be adjusted. A system achieving this performance is specified by the following parameters. A compression of the dynamic range of the program to be broadcast is carried out by sound engineers. This intelligent alteration of the dynamic range delivers a drive signal, which is encoded imperceptibly in the stereophonic broadcast signal. On the receiving end, the drive signal can be used for adjusting the dynamic range individually by means of a decoder.
