The ambisonic and ambiophonic playback are very promising techniques in sound field reconstruction. The listener`s brain can feel the illusion of the reproduced sound scene as if `it was there`. In this paper the ambisonic technique is analyzed and the main issue concerning ambiophonics and B-format are revised. A dedicated room called `arlecchino` has been simulated, calibrated, designed and finally realized for the purpose of ambisonic and ambiophonic listening tests, especially for car-audio systems improvements. Eight diffusers were implemented in the room in order to reproduce the eight-channel B-format signal. In order to test the fidelity of music and noise reconstruction, many B-format tracks have been recorded in an ancient church and notable acoustical places along with the B-format IRs of the acoustical environments. The B-format tracks were hence tested in the listening room. The main steps of the listening room designing are illustrated.
