Production of Virtual Acoustic Guitar Music

This paper presents an overview of our research results dealing with the simulation of natural sounding guitar synthesis. The discussion starts with the description of our synthesis model. After this an analysis and calibration process is described that results in excitation signals and synthesis data for our model. The paper shows how the guitar model is controlled with the help of an extended notation package. The system allows simulation of various playing techniques used typically by a classical guitarist. We present also how the standard 6-string classical guitar can be extended to a 24-string virtual `super guitar`. With this novel instrument we are able to realize complex musical textures that cannot be played by a human player using a standard acoustical instrument.
