AES PNW Presents: OpenSoundControl -The Future of Music Protocols Revisited

Bold new techniques, exciting new ways of thinking, exotic technologies seemingly from the future — all these described computer music in the 1990s. Back then, everyone knew that most music would soon be made with software, and OpenSoundControl emerged as the way to manage it: a new protocol for a new world unimaginable to the developers of MIDI. In this talk, we’ll discuss what OSC is, how it began, some of the many places it’s been used, and how its ideas might continue into the future.
