Call for Comment on REVISION of AES48-2005, Grounding and EMC practices - Shields of connectors in audio equipment containing active circuitry

The Call for Comment on REVISION of AES48-2005, AES standard on interconnections - Grounding and EMC practices - Shields of connectors in audio equipment containing active circuitry has been published.

This standard specifies requirements for the connections of the designated shield contact of connectors built into audio equipment using active circuitry. These requirements are necessary for the preservation of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) at both audio and radio frequencies.

AES70, Audio applications of networks - Open Control Architecture, has been revised

AES70-2018 AES standard for audio applications of networks - Open Control Architecture, has been published in three parts.

AES70 defines a scalable control-protocol architecture for professional media networks. AES70 addresses device control and monitoring only; it does not define standards for streaming media transport. However, the Open Control Architecture (OCA) is intended to cooperate with various media transport architectures.

Part 1: Framework describes the models and mechanisms of the AES70 Open Control Architecture. These models and mechanisms together form the AES70 Framework. This document should be read together with Part 2, Class Structure and Part 3, TCP/IP communications protocol.

Part 2: Class structure specifies the control class structure for AES70 that defines the AES70's control and monitoring functional capabilities and should be read in conjunction with Part 1, Framework, and Part 3, TCP/IP communications protocol.

Part 3: Protocol for TCP/IP Networks specifies a protocol implementation for TCP/IP networks. It should be read in conjunction with Part 1, Framework, and Part 2, Class Tree.

Call for Comment on DRAFT REVISED AES5-xxxx - AES recommended practice for professional digital audio — Preferred sampling frequencies for applications employing pulse-code modulation

The Call for Comment on DRAFT REVISED AES5-xxxx - "AES recommended practice for professional digital audio — Preferred sampling frequencies for applications employing pulse-code modulation" was published 2018-09-19.

This standard covers the use of certain preferred sampling frequencies in applications employing pulse-code modulation where there is a need for interchange of high-fidelity digital audio programs with a minimum of transcoding complexity. Examples of applications where such interchange may occur include, but are not limited to, master tape recordings (audio alone, and audio with video), submaster tape recordings prepared for transfer to a consumer product format, studio signal processing, and the point-to-point transmission of broadcast signals over satellite or terrestrial networks.

This standard is not concerned with sampling frequencies for narrow-band audio applications, such as voice-quality transmission links, or with processing devices in which both the input and the output signals are in an analog format, even if such signals are ultimately used for interchange of program.

AES71-2018: Recommended Practice Loudness Guidelines for Over the Top Television and Online Video Distribution Published

This AES Recommended Practice (RP) describes the many issues related to online audio Loudness variations.  It provides comprehensive recommendations documenting effective guidelines for managing audio Loudness of soundtracks of television and video content available to consumers by Over-The-Top (OTT) and by Online Video Distributors (OVD).

When followed, these guidelines will provide consistent Loudness, appropriate playback loudness range, reduce audio quality degradation from excessive limiting, preserve the original artistic intent, and improve the listening experience. This document does not provide specific recommendations about target playback loudness or dynamic range.

The standard is available for sale now on in the AES Standards Store.

Call for Comment on Withdrawl of AES64-2012: AES standard for audio applications of networks - Command, control, and connection management for integrated media

Call for Comment on WITHDRAWAL of AES64-2012, AES standard for audio applications of networks - Command, control, and connection management for integrated media has been published in accordance with our 5-year review policy on 2018-06-22.

The reason for withdrawal is that the standard has become out of date and the original proponents do not think the effort required to update it is worthwhile.
