Past Event: Source Elements—Audio Collaboration Technology and Demonstration

February 13, 2024 at 4:30 pm

Location: Bragg 174, College of Media and Entertainment, Middle Tennessee State University and online

Moderated by: Prof. Michael Fleming, MTSU Dept. of Recording Industry

Speaker(s): Robert Marshall, Source Elements

Source Elements is a company and a suite of tools that allows media content creators to collaborate in real time through networked software applications.  One of its products, Source-Connect, is an industry standard in the film and television industry for remote recording, review and approval.  As the company explains, "whether you need to record a voice actor or musician, compose, live-stream, and record an orchestra performance around the world, or sync a commercial spot with video across the city, Source Elements is the way to lock-in sound quality and synchronicity."

Co-founder Robert Marshall will demonstrate A to B remote recording, then add in remote clients and finally show either music overdubbing or ADR.

In keeping with the theme, this will be an online presentation.  You can join others in Lab A to view the event as a group, or you can participate individually using the Zoom link below.

Robert Marshall studied Music Composition and Electronics at Ball State University.  As a sound designer and mixer, he has over 25 years of experience producing national TV and radio content for major agencies, including several Super Bowl spots over the years.  The company he helped launch in 2005 was a pioneer in modernizing remote audio work flows.  As he notes, "you have probably heard audio today that passed through Source-Connect."
