SC-03-06 meeting, Online, 2024-05

Report of the meeting of the SC-03-06 Working Group on Digital Library and Archive Systems, held online, 2024-05-24.

Chair Nadja Wallaszkovits called the meeting to order.

The formal notice on patent policy was read.

The agenda was approved as written.

There were no comments on the report of the previous meeting, held online, 2023-10-13.

In attendance were Richard Cabot, Brad McCoy, Bruce Olson, Gordon Reid, Nadja Wallaszkovits, Toby Seay, Paul Treleaven, Abhimonyu Deb.

Open Projects:

AES-X120: Liaison with International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives IASA
Several members of the Sc-03-06 group are members of the IASA TC. Short report about the last IASA TC meeting held during the Conference in Istanbul, Sept 2023. Our project AES-X255 was presented there and well accepted. Questions about the relationship between IASA and AES were raised. AES-X255 will be open for comments to the IASA TC as well. The relationship is well established and ongoing.

AES-X255: AES Guidelines for Audio Preservation and Restoration - Digital Archiving of Professional Audio Production Formats
The title of the document has meanwhile slightly changed to: “AES information document: Implementation of a Recommended Workflow for the Creation and Archiving of Analogue and Digital Archival Materials from Professional /Multitrack/ Multichannel Audio Production Formats”.

The document is well developed and currently at the stage of final editorial work before it is planned to publish the first draft for comments. Bi-weekly meetings of the core working group, including high-ranking experts have changed since May 2024 to individually scheduled meetings with special focus on some of the remaining topics.

Presentation at the European Convention June 15th within a workshop is already scheduled and in preparation, official publication at AES New York Convention is planned.

Liaisons

Liaisons with P&E wing has been established during the work on AES X-255. SMPTE could be another institution, but currently there is no active need or involvement in establishing this liaison.

New business

No new business was raised.

The next meeting will be scheduled in conjunction with the AES 157th Convention, to be held online in October 2024.
