AES67-R - Review of AES67-2018 , AES standard for audio applications of networks - High-performance streaming audio-over-IP interoperability
A task group meeting was conducted yesterday morning. The work in the group is focused on two major items: A revision of the standard and the logo program.
A draft revision is ready including a lot of proposed changes. The task group is charged with reviewing those changes and will have a run through end of May.
Up until recently the focus was on the PIC summary and WAN.
As to offensive language the IEEE is not taking the same route as SMPTE. Possibly revise what can be agreed on now (in this revision) and do the rest later.
The current target for the revision is 2022. By the end of May, it will be determined if the current draft can be done in time or if another approach is taken to reaffirm. It was noted that the current standard is stable, and it works.
AES70-1-R Review of AES70-1-2018: AES standard for audio applications of networks - Open Control Architecture - Part 1: Framework
AES70-2-R Review of AES70-2-2018: AES standard for audio applications of networks - Open Control Architecture - Part 2: Class structure
AES70-3-R Review of AES70-3-2018: AES standard for audio applications of networks - Open Control Architecture - Part 3: Protocol for TCP/IP networks
The revision is still progressing on the OCA and the target for a draft is 2022. The revised standard is going to be more robust, consistent, and easier to use and will include a lot of new features for Pro audio and broadcast.
AES-R16 AES Standards Report - PTP parameters for AES67 and SMPTE ST 2059-2 interoperability
Published update with insensitive terms removed.
AES-X242 Streaming audio metadata over IP
Work on hold since last meeting. SMPTE waiting to progress, change tactics, SMPTE will create core and AES will follow. The SMPTE work is currently held up by work on the audio payload, when completed in a few months the work in this group can continue.
The target is a simple standard describing, how to do SMPTE 2110 metadata on AES67.
AES-X243 Audio applications of networks - Using AES70 for managing AES67 and SMPTEST 2110-30 media stream connections
The draft in an advanced state. It was delayed a bit due to some late changes to the core standard. On track to release a month after AES70-1/2/3.
AES-X251 AES74 Conformance Survey
No progress.
AES-X252 AES70 Milan Adaptation
Nothing to report, awaiting draft from OCA.
Expect to start work within this group within a few months and to have a complete draft shortly after the AES70-1/2/3 revision.
Liaison with MPEG (John Grant)
Not following that closely, not seen anything exciting in audio.
Liaison with ETSI (John Grant)
Starting to look at prototyping over new 5G radio. The work is progressing.
IEC TC100 (John Grant)
Related to networking - 2 projects, both in area of getting reasonable stable latency over wireless links.
Liaison with IEC62379-1 (Common control interface, orig. BBC project in 2004, ATM etc.) (Peter Stevens)
Aiming to get in contact with IEC to finish some work and put it in unsupported state.
No further progress, issues with the file format and the version of Word.
Liaison with ST 2059 (SMPTE) (Use of PTP for professional media sync.) (Paul Treleaven)
2059-1 -2 : The group is now considering further revision to the suite to harmonize with 2019 version of IEEE-1588.
2110 suite : Several parts are being revised and are nearing publication.
Liaison with Avnu ProAV AVTP (Morten Lave)
Avnu has released their own certification tool for certification of Milan end station and bridged end station devices.
Next Meeting
The next meeting will be scheduled in conjunction with the AES 153rd Convention, to be held October 2022.
