Report of the meeting of the SC-05-02 Working Group on Audio Connectors, held online, 2021-05-14

The meeting was convened by Standards Manager Richard Cabot since Michael Fuechsl has resigned. Fred Morgenstern has agreed to take over as Chair.

In attendance were Richard Cabot, Richard Hess, Anthony Kuzub, Jim Meyer, Fred Morgenstern, John Schilberg, Paul Treleaven

The formal notice on patent policy was read.

The meeting agenda was accepted as written.

Minutes of previous meeting online, 2020-10-09 were approved.

AES72 – Application of RJ45-type connectors and quad twisted-pair cable for audio interconnections
Anthony has contacted several manufacturers of RJ cable adaptor products informing them of AES72 and encouraging adoption. He does not yet know which manufacturers will agree to label their products in accordance with the standard. Anthony reviewed several of the products currently on the market. He then reviewed the basics of the standard and some of the development history. Anthony will be presenting a webinar on the standard and its applications in September. He expects to include real-time demonstrations in the presentation.

AES59 – Audio application of 25-way D-type connectors in balanced circuits
Anthony discussed the need to add the issues of shielding and grounding best practices as covered in AES48 to this document. AES48 is the responsibility of SC-05-05.
