AES72 – Application of RJ45-type connectors and quad twisted-pair cable for audio interconnections
Anthony Kuzub described the issues around implementing AES72, particularly when carrying AES3 signals, but also when mixing receive and transmit channels on the same cable in a bidirectional link. He also described issues encountered when interconnecting multichannel microphones with CAT cable, and problems with phantom powering. Paul Treleaven noted that these topics have been raised in SC-02-02 and SC-05-05 as well as in this group and asked where this work was going to take place.
Anthony then raised the idea of sending letters to manufacturers of RJ cable adaptor products informing them of AES72 and encouraging adoption. This was discussed at the previous meeting but hasn’t been done.
Nothing to report.
None were suggested.
No new business was proposed.
The next meeting will be scheduled in conjunction with the AES 150th Convention, to be held either face-to-face or online in May 2020.
