Report of the meeting of the SC-05-02 Working Group on Audio Connectors of the SC-05 Subcommittee on Interconnections, held online, 2020-05-26

The meeting was convened by acting chair Bruce Olson. Michael Fuechsl is taking over as chair. He has been, and continues to be, involved in IEC standards. Bruce Olson served in this meeting to bring Michael up to speed.

In attendance were P Treleaven, J Meyer, R Cabot, B Olson, D Andrews, D Robb, J Britto, M Fuechsl.

The formal notice on patent policy was read.

The meeting agenda was accepted as written.

Minutes of previous meeting in New York, 2019-10-17 were approved.

Open projects

AES72 – Application of RJ45-type connectors and quad twisted-pair cable for audio interconnections
The committee again discussed the need to get manufacturers to use the standard. The Standards Manager will send letters to manufacturers of equipment that implement QTP audio interfaces along with a complementary copy of the standard. He will also investigate getting an article published about the standard in the audio press.

New business

There was some discussion on the lack of new projects. There was also discussion of a previous project for a new XLR connector which had been withdrawn about a year ago.

The next meeting will be scheduled in conjunction with the AES 149th Convention, to be held online in October 2020.
