Report of the meeting of the SC-04-08 Working Goup on Measurement and Equalization of sound systems in rooms, of the SC-04 Subcommittee on Acoustics, held in Los Angeles, 2014-10-09
In the absence of the chair and vice chair, the meeting was convened by SC-04 chair D. Josephson. Comments and corrections to this report are invited.
The agenda and report of the previous meeting, held in Berlin 2014-04-27, were approved as written.
Development Projects
AES-X215 - "Liaison with SMPTE project to codify current procedures to calibrate the Cinema B-Chain"
The SMPTE draft report on their recommended procedures for calibration of the cinema B-chain was uploaded to the SC-04-08 document site on 2014-10-03.
Comments are invited from this group. Comments should be sent as soon as possible to the working-group email reflector for communication to SMPTE.
AES-X216 - "Liaison with SMPTE project on Calibration Pink-Noise Standard and Test File"
The SMPTE draft report on their pink noise standard was uploaded to the SC-04-08 document site on 2014-10-03. Comments are invited from this group. Comments should be sent to the working-group email reflector.
There was a discussion about the pink noise reference level (-19 vs -20 dB) and other details of the draft SMPTE documents mentioned. In view of the short time until the requested comment date of 2014-11-01, SC-04-08's comments are likely to be informal. C. Struck indicated that he was serving as rapporteur between SC-04-08 and SMPTE TC-25CSS both for formal and informal comments. Further discussion on these projects should be directed to the SC-04-08 reflector.
AES-X218 - "Measurement and calibration of sound systems in rooms"
E. Brixen reminded the group that Nordtest NT ACOU 108 had been uploaded to the SC-04-08 document site in 2013 for consideration in the preparation of this document.
Liaisons
There were no new liaison issues.
New Projects
B. McCarty mentioned a new project AES-X227 for the assessment of loudness of program content playback in rooms, and reported on some of the issues in theaters that have prompted this work. The project was approved by SC-04 on 2014-10-08 and will be assigned to SC-04-08.

There was no new business.
The next meeting will be scheduled in conjunction with the 138th convention in Warsaw, Poland, 2015-05.
