Report of the meeting of the SC-05-02 Working Group on Audio Connectors of the SC-05 Subcommittee on Interconnections, held in New York, 2013-10-18

The meeting was convened by vice chair W. Bachmann.

The agenda and the report of the previous meeting held in Rome, 2013-05-05, were accepted as written.

Development projects

AES-X011: Fiber-Optic Audio Connections: Connectors and Cables Being Used and Considered for Audio
The chair proposed that M. Natter could rewrite the current draft to bring it up to date.

AES-X123: XL Connectors to Improve Electromagnetic Compatibility
Secretariat to to prepare a final draft based on email comments to date.

Liaisons

No liaison matters arose.

New projects

Nascent AES-X199 Pluggable terminal strips
The meeting discussed whether terminals with 2.50 or 2.54 mm pitch should be standardized. No compromise was found. More investigation in the industry is necessary.

Nascent AES-X222 Next-generation audio connector
Bachmann introduced a new generation of audio connectors called “YMS”. A Project Initiation Request had been received from M. Natter previously. The meeting supported the project request.

[The project was subsequently approved by Subcommittee SC-05 and assigned to SC-05-02.]

New business

There was no new business.

The next meeting will be scheduled in conjunction with the AES 136th Convention in Berlin, Germany, 26 to 29 April 2014.
