Following the first "Tutorial Seminar on Acoustics" held on August, 2010, Japan Section's annual tutorial seminar was held on 4 days, from September 17th to October 2nd.
The annual tutorial seminar last year was held only in Tokyo; This year, the seminar was held in Nagoya and Osaka as well as in Tokyo to boost the opportunities of the AES activities in Japan for achieving greater recognition of AES .
The lectures were refined and improved over those last year, with the lecturers having republished improved textbooks.
The annual tutorial seminar is one of the most important annual events hosted by the Japan Section. The lectures cover wide areas of acoustic theories, which just should meet high demands from beginners to experts, who haven't received proper education on acoustic theories.
All the lectures were very informative; some lectures included practical demonstrations such as recording and playback of several microphone arrangements in a recording studio.
The concept of the seminar in Osaka was "Basics of Acoustics." The titles of the lectures were as follows.
[the seminar in Osaka] 9:00 - 17:55, October 2nd
1. Basic Properties of Sound (90 min) by Kazuma Hoshi (Nihon Univ.)
2. Basics of Psychoacoustics (90 min) by Akira Nishimura (Tokyo University of Information Sciences)
3. Basics of Electroacoustics (90 min) by Yoshitaka Tamura (Studio Equipment Corp.)
4. Basic Theories of Room Acoustics (145 min) by Masataka Nakahara (SONA Corp. /ONFUTURE Ltd.)
Since many of the attendees were non-AES members, an officer of the Japan Section introduced AES and its activities at the start of seminar every morning. Through this seminar, the attendees became very supportive of AES activities, which was obviously observed in the questionnaire returned.
The Japan Section is trying hard to make the annual tutorial seminar an institutional audio seminar event, which hopefully will become very popular, home and abroad.
