Meeting Topic: Stereo Mix Critique

Each semester the MTSU AES gives members the opportunity to bring in their mixes both from class and personal recording projects and have them evaluated by a panel of experienced engineers. This semester's panel included Bill Crabtree, Chris Haseleu, Dan Pfeifer, John Hill, and John Merchant. Utilizing our meeting space's active headphone distribution system, the panelists as well as every member in attendance could listen to each track using either their own or provided headphones. After playback, the panelists offered their opinions of the mixes and offered advice on how to improve them. The event was not only beneficial to those who submitted a mix, but was a good learning experience for everyone in attendance. Turnout this semester was extremely high, resulting in a wide variety of styles and approaches to be evaluated.
