Summary

On February 22nd, 2011, University of Hartford Audio Engineering Technology senior Rob Hoinsky presented on his business Art of Noise Audio. Rob founded the company in 2006 and began building enclosures for a select group of automobiles. Rob has since expanded into passive crossover design, acoustic treatments, system design, and most recently, live sound engineering. His newest products consist of lightweight cabinet designs for instrument amplification and sound reinforcement.

Hoinsky spoke of his struggle with elementary and secondary education and discussed lessons learned along the way. He challenged students to take a new view on the road to success, insisting that a fresh perspective opens unconventional paths to a prosperous career. Some of Rob's main advice for starting a business included identifying and catering to niche markets, completing work in a timely manner, and, occasionally, finding a balance between your beliefs and your clients' wishes. The presentation also covered effective marketing strategies and pointed out methods for using the internet to find competitively priced contract workers. Hoinsky ended his talk with a recommended readings list of titles relating to small business success, rational vs romantic philosophy, and music psychology.
