The last lecture of the tutorial seminar on the first day; Basic theories of Room Acoustics. The lecturer, Masataka Nakahara (SONA Corp. / ONFUTURE Ltd.), and 40 attendees.
Meeting Topic: Tutorial Seminar on Acoustics -Part 1
Moderator Name: Masataka Nakahara
Speaker Name: Kazuma Hoshi (Nihon Univ.), Atsushi Marui (Tokyo University of the Arts), Masataka Nakahara (SONA Corp. / ONFUTURE Ltd.)
Meeting Location: Tokyo University of the Arts, Tokyo, Japan
Japan Section has planned to hold annually a tutorial seminar on acoustics for students and young engineers. The seminar is going to be one of the important annual events Japan Section will hold.
The content covered wide areas of acoustic theories which should be usually learned in universities as a special knowledge. Because attendees include students who are not necessarily familiar with mathematics and physics, theories referred to in the seminar were translated into simple stories with fewer equations, and the lecturers' explanation was in plain terms. The seminar also included some field demonstrations and practices, eg, a field experience of room modes, a demonstration of microphone characteristics vs recorded sounds.
The titles of the lectures were as follows.
[1st day] 9:00 — 17:40, August 4th
1. Basic Properties of Sound (90min)
by Kazuma Hoshi (Nihon Univ.)
2. Psychoacoustical Experiments 1, 2 (150min)
by Atsushi Marui (Tokyo University of the Arts)
3. Basic Theories of Room Acoustics 1, 2 (150min)
by Masataka Nakahara (SONA Corp. / ONFUTURE Ltd.)
[2nd day] 9:00 — 17:40, August 5th
1. Basics of Electroacoustics (90min)
by Yoshitaka Tamura (Studio Equipment Corp.)
2. Basic Theories of Loudspeakers 1, 2 (150min)
by Shinji Koyano (Pioneer Corp.)
3. Basics of Microphones —Theories and Practices (150min)
by Kazuho Ono (NHK STRL) and Toru Kamekawa (Tokyo University of the Arts)
In the last part of the first day, a field demonstration of room modes was carried out, and attendees recognized that room modes, which had been learned in the preceding lecture, surely did exist.
The first day had 40 people attending the seminar, and five people newly joined AES.
According to the questionnaires which were collected from 70% of attendees, the seminar was evaluated as "great satisfaction" by the attendees.
