Meeting Topic: Song Placement in Television, Film Music Libraries, and More
Speaker Name: Guillermo Pascual
Meeting Location: Gilbert, AZ
CRAS is excited to welcome in Guillermo Pascual, a music producer/composer who has had many placements in things like League of Legends, movies, and many other productions in North America and Spain. We started by talking about how to network with people to get your music placed in things, and the best ways to approach them about it. It is good to come to them knowing what you would best like to work on (i.e. classical, trap, etc.), so that you can establish that with them quickly and prevent miscommunications. We also discussed how to protect the music that you create through copyrights. When copyrighting (specifically scores), you should also be specific with how you title the work, so that the general vibe can be found through the title alone. Once they've been copyrighted, there are many places that you can upload your music to. There aren't any that are particularly better than others, but it is a good idea to leave your music on the internet because it opens up more opportunities for you. The other option is to work for a music library. If you choose to work for a music library, it is important to negotiate your compensation appropriately and understand what you are agreeing to, such as the ownership period, terms of exclusivity, etc. Then, we discussed important things to talk with a PRO about prior to signing an agreement. We wrapped up by discussing some tips on how to get your work seen, and how to maximize your opportunities by taking advantage of platforms and other things we have access to.
