Meeting Topic: October Monthly Update
Meeting Location: Webster University, Webster Groves, MO
To start off the month of October, Webster AES held a pizza meeting on October 1st, welcoming students to network among their peers. During the second week of October, Webster University's Audio Engineering Society Student Section officers traveled to participate in the 2024 Audio Engineering Society Show held in New York. While in New York, officers networked with industry professionals inviting sponsors and guest speakers to attend the 2025 Central Region Audio Student Summit. We saw and interacted with incredible engineers such as Jack Antonoff, Andrew Scheps, Tom Lord-Alge, Bob Clearmountain, Warren Huart, and many others! The following week campus was closed for Fall Break. After returning from Fall Break, Webster AES resumed their weekly general meetings on October 22nd, starting with an outdoor meeting exploring topics in field recording. During this meeting, students were invited to use Zoom recorders to practice field recording different sounds and foley. Students attending were also able to record interviews with each other, along with many outdoor sounds. On October 29th, We held a meeting to observe and discuss recording electric guitars through analog and digital recording. Students were shown how to mic a basic guitar and amplifier setup during this meeting. We also discussed more advanced guitar signal routing involving analog guitar pedals, digital guitar amp modelers, and plugins. Finally, students were also able to discuss the aesthetics of mixing guitar tones within specific genres.
