Last weekend, the Second Argentinian Audio Workshop took place at Estudio Santa Marta, located in the Caballito neighborhood of Buenos Aires. On Saturday, August 10th, and Sunday, August 11th, starting at 10 a.m., attendees gathered with music producer Orestes Di Vruno (Estudio Santa Marta) and entrepreneurs Marcelo De Petro (Guerrilla Audio Store), Patricio Baumann (PBM), and Tomás Quagliardi (Quagliardi Pro Audio), who led the activities held at the studio.
The event was opened by the President of AES Argentina, Gustavo González, and the activities began immediately afterward.
First, the attendees were invited into the Control Room, where they reviewed the studio's equipment and operations. The Quagliardi Powergrid 10, along with the 501+ Preamp and the 576 FET compressor, were presented.
After reviewing the applications, uses, and possibilities of these tools, the participants moved to the Recording Room to go over microphone techniques for recording a drum set, using equipment from Guerrilla Audio Store and Pato Baumann Mics.
Pato Baumann provided the participants with the PBM C2, C4, 87, R1, and M7 models, while Guerrilla Audio Store offered the G.A.S. K67, Fon, 84, and 77 models.
In the Recording Room, a workshop on applications and uses was led by Orestes Di Vruno, Marcelo De Petro, and Patricio Baumann, who explained the origins, motivations, challenges, difficulties, and future projections of both companies. The proposed stereo microphone techniques and different spotting techniques were reviewed.
After the setup was completed, the attendees returned to the Control Room to perform the level check and start "finding the sound" for the Argentinian Audio Workshop. The input signals were processed with various Quagliardi Pro Audio preamps and compressors.
The second instrument recorded was a Jazz Bass. The bass line was captured with a Quagliardi Pro Audio "Colorbox" direct injection box. The recordings were then compared with other methods, and reamping techniques were carried out with the "Colorbox Reamp Q."
The third instrument was an acoustic guitar, played by Orestes Di Vruno, which was captured with both PBM and G.A.S. microphones. This allowed for evaluations of the recordings, and collective listening helped draw conclusions.
Finally, vocals were recorded, with a standout performance by Tomás Quagliardi. All material recorded during the Second Argentinian Audio Workshop will be provided to the attendees who actively participated.
The Argentinian Audio Workshops began in May at La Metro (Córdoba), continued at Santa Marta (Buenos Aires), and will be held next on August 30th at SABA Studio (Córdoba).
