The June meeting focused on virtual mixing using Audio-Technica's newly
developed BP3600 immersive audio microphone and the Flux::SPAT
Revolution, developed by French research institute Ircam. Noriko Matsui
,Shioto Okita and Hisanori Yoshinari from Audio-Technica and Satoshi
Yamaguchi from Media Integration presented the details of the project. They
explained the development of the immersive microphone, which was
designed for use at sporting events, field recordings, concerts, etc., and why
it was developed with this shape and directivity, as well as the requirements.
The virtual mixing of 3D audio tracks recorded with the BP3600 and realised
using SPAT Revolution was also discussed, with actual sound sources
recorded with the BP3600 and played back on a 5.1.4 speaker.
During the discussion, members of the AES meeting committee also
presented pre-recorded sound using the BP3600 and discussed the current
state of immersive recording and future solutions.
