Meeting Topic: March Monthly Update
Meeting Location: Webster University, Webster Groves, MO
Hello, from Webster AES! March was a busy, exhilarating month for us! We started the month with a tour of Ironman Sound Industries. As one of the leading production companies in St. Louis, they showed us their facilities and over 7000 pieces of gear. After the tour, we had a live-mixing workshop with some of their equipment. The next couple of weeks were spent getting ready for our 18th annual Central Region Audio Student Summit. We held a meeting for volunteers to understand the weekend's daily operations better. From March 22nd to March 24th, it was finally time to begin CRASS.
As the largest student-run event for AES, we brought in presenters and industry professionals from around the world to speak on their experience and network with the next generation of audio engineers. We had panels on various avenues of audio, such as Live Engineering, Working in a Studio, and On-set Film Recording. On Friday night, we held a speed networking event for students to get to know the panelists and build relationships for future collaboration and employment. On Saturday, we brought in a local band, The Breakdowwns, to record and mix a song in our Audio Suite. This showed students the ways a recording engineer interacts with talent and manages a recording session. Lastly, we ended another successful summit with a Student Mix Competition, where students were given song stems to mix and had the opportunity to win prizes!
