Summary

The AES meeting on February 12, 2024 was held in the CRAS Live Sound room in Gilbert, Arizona. It started off with introductions, which involved everyone introducing themselves and answering the question "what's your favorite audio memory"? Then the AES office holders were introduced by co-presidents, Vickie Cardenas and Tristan Telischuk. The meeting continued with the co-presidents explaining the purpose of AES and going over the benefits of becoming a member. Student rates were mentioned and how CRAS students could take advantage of the resources that an AES membership has to offer.
Once introductions and general information was handled, an upcoming event was brought up. Warm Audio will be coming to CRAS (Gilbert campus) on March 14, 2024. Warm Audio will be going over their product line. The meeting proceeded by the co-presidents introducing a new weekly meeting format. Meeting topics include audio industry news, specific audio topics and sound design competitions. Previous meeting attendees were emailed the base sounds to use for the sound design competition. The objective is to come up with different sounds with the base sounds and the winner is decided by voting at meetings. The winner of this week's sound design competition was CRAS student, Ricardo Herrera.
Attendees were informed about the different subgroups that CRAS has to offer and how to start one. The subgroups at CRAS include songwriting/music creation, podcast, jammers and sound design. Other organizations at CRAS were brought up as well. The co-presidents informed attendees about the CRAS Mentor Program and Women of Audio.
The main topic for this meeting was impulse response reverb. This involves capturing the sonic footprint of a room and creating a way to mimic it digitally. Videos about recording sonic footprint and convolution reverb were shown to explain the concept. To add on to the concept, the plugin of the week was Convology XT by Impulse Record. The meeting ended with a fun Kahoot about microphones. The winners were awarded color changing cups and hats for prizes.
