Meeting Topic: Mix It! Live!
Moderator Name: Ian Corbett
Meeting Location: Escuela de Música Contemporánea (EMC), Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina
Today was a great day for AES-EMC! Today was the day Ian Corbett, professor at Kansas City Kansas Community College and author of renowned recording manual "Mic It!", paid a visit to EMC to give his workshop on live recording and mixing titled "Mix It! Live!".
The workshop consisted in a two-hour talk complete with a PowerPoint presentation and, perhaps most interestingly, a live band to use as an example: a funk project integrated by three AES-EMC members (Chair Federico Matta y Trejo on the keyboards, Mauricio Ballesteros on lead electric guitar and Arnau Loayza on drums), one EMC student (Juan Manuel de León on bass) and one EMC graduate (Santiago Balda as frontman, singer and rhythmic electric guitar).
The workshop was a success (not to mention a ton of fun, especially for the live band) and we sincerely hope to be able to host more events with Ian Corbett in the future. Special thanks to our sponsors, Slap (Argentina's official distributor for both Ableton and iCON) and Planeta Analógico, and for the wide variety of mics they supplied to us for the event which we used in conjunction with the ones at EMC. Likewise, special thanks to Santiago Balda and Juan Manuel de León for their participations as well.
