MEETING MINUTES 3/6/23
Steve outlined the official AES Section Guidelines, detailing each role within the Executive Committee.
An overview of upcoming events was shared:
—Mix-Off Event
—San Diego Media Pros workshop related to audio and film
—"Making Waves" film screening and masterclass at San Diego City College
Steve requested assistance identifying people in the film production and post-production community in San Diego to include in events.
Steve spoke about his outreach efforts to current and previous AES members in the San Diego area.
Steve discussed email communication including an AES SD Gmail account as well as an official AES SD section email forwarding address.
Gabe suggested doing more outreach to target students.
All participants discussed the purpose of the AES SD Section, including solidifying the audio production community in the San Diego area. Comments included focusing on being "radically inclusive" by making the section open to students, educators, and professionals, as well as doing all events free of charge. Bobby encouraged the section to also include high-level professional events in addition to student-focused events.
Steve read through the official election procedures.
Options for holding board elections were discussed.
Participants decided that an email should be sent to all current and potential AES members in the area announcing the upcoming election and encouraging non-members to join AES prior to the election. The meeting will be scheduled for Monday, April 17, 2023 at 7:30pm.
Distinctions between professional AES sections and student AES section were detailed. It was determined that only Associate and Full Members will be eligible for holding cabinet positions, but student members will be allowed to vote.
Mix Off Update from Bobby: Studio West will host. Ben Moore will be one of the judges. One prize will be eight hours of studio time at Studio West. Software and hardware could also be prizes. Have an instructor from each institution get involved. Ben suggested researching other mix off competitions for rules and regulations.
