MusicMax and ALTHAR demonstrate gear. AES Columbus, October 3rd, 2021.
This was the AES Columbus Section's first event, with presentations by MusicMax and Althar Audio.
MusicMax distributes for a growing list of brands including Fredenstein, WesAudio, Elysia, Audinate, and Que. Chad Loughridge from MusicMax presented gear from WesAudio, Fredenstein, and Elysia. From WesAudio: ngBusComp Analog Buss Compressor, Dione (VCA) and Mimas FET (1176 style) compressors, Prometheus (Pultec style) and Hyperion (SSL style) EQ. From Elysia: Nvelope, Karacter and mPressor compressor. From Fredenstein: Artistic Series Leveler (optical) compressor and Artistic EQ. A particularly exciting highlight was seeing WesAudio's digital recall capabilities in action, with plugins in ProTools and the hardware controlling each other.
Althar Audio presented their ULD TD Direct Drive transformerless loudspeaker design, a game-changing design for carrying sound across large spaces. The MusicMax warehouse provided a great demo location for the technology. Audio played through the system could be heard clearly from the other side of the warehouse, with very little high-frequency rolloff, while at the same time not being too loud to listen to while standing next to the speaker column. What kind of magic is that?
