Matt shared details from a unique archiving effort and discussed the importance of preserving analog & digital masters, including physical tape handling & remediation, high-resolution digitization workflows, data management and archival metadata.
First, he explained the history of Austin City Limits, and spoke of some of the artists who performed on the show. He then gave the audience a tour of the studio and described and demonstrated some of the tools used for repair and remastering — both audio and film capabilities. He also took the audience through an arena full of media to to be repaired. He displayed, at close range, damaged media that would be repaired. Finally, he allowed us to hear vintage raw multitracks.
