Dr. Micah shepherd is an assistant research Professor at Penn State University who teaches and advises graduate students in the graduate program in acoustics. At Penn State, Dr. Shepherd has worked predominantly in the area of structural acoustics and vibration. He has significant experience with numerical modeling and multi-disciplinary optimization including the prediction of sound radiation from complex structures, the vibration of acoustic guitars and the optimal design of low-noise aircraft panels. He also has extensive experience with structural-acoustic measurements and experimental modal analysis. Meeting Topic: Modal Analysis of Acoustic Guitars
Moderator Name: Nicholas Carder
Speaker Name: Dr. Micah Shepherd (Assistant Research Professor of Acoustics at Penn State University)
Meeting Location: State College, PA, Penn State Willard 160
Dr. Micah Shepherd shared with us the fundamentals of acoustics and modal analysis as it pertains to the acoustic guitar. Although he does not play the guitar himself, his career in structural acoustics and vibration led him and a team of PSU acousticians to a collaborative effort with Marin Guitar. He happily discussed some of his experiences in this project and his career overall with those in attendance.
