On the 6th of December the AES Student Section Hamburg together with the Professional Section had a joint meeting with the VDT Hamburg Regional Group. Topics of this meeting were the activity of other Student Sections around Germany, preparation of "klingt gut" Symposium on Sonic Art and Spatial Audio KLG 2020, attending the AES Convention in Vienna 2020, the new networking format Audio Meet-Up and an idea for a research project from AES Fellow Ralph Kessler.
The Meeting took place at HAW Hamburg just before the christmas party of the Sound Lab. We sat in a relaxed group of 22 people around a table packed with snacks and drinks and discussed many topics. Ben Gallagher of Double Shot Audio presented the new regional networking format Audio Meet-Up which Ben and Double Shot Audio co-chief Made Indrayana created collectively. It gives Audio Professionals as well as other people interested in audio the chance to talk about new projects or issues and exchange ideas on how to improve methods and maybe even find a new working group. The Audio Meet-Up is not focused on one topic alone that gives everybody the chance to learn something new about another audio fields. The idea of establishing a research group / workgroup "Acoustical Awareness for Restaurants" presented by Ralph Kessler of Ing. Büro Pinguin, renowned for their contributions to spatial audio, appealed to many of the attending members, and additional concepts were suggested.
After the meeting everyone was invited to the christmas party of the sound lab were we offered homemade spicy wine, beer, soft drinks, homemade waffles and christmas cookies. The program included a christmas song presented in Higher Order Ambisonics in the 33.2 Audio Dome of the Immersive Audio Lab, a band playing christmas songs as well as the opportunity to jam with fellow musicians. We had a wonderful day and we always welcome people to visit our Sound Lab at the HAW Hamburg.
