Meeting Topic: "klingt gut" Symposium on Sound in Hamburg
Meeting Location: Arts and Media Campus Hamburg, Germany
The AES Student Section Hamburg is delighted to report that our second installment of the "klingt gut! - Symposium on Sound" on May 26 - 28 was a massive success. Participants enjoyed three days of informative lectures, hands-on workshops, and interactive panel discussions as well as cutting edge installations and performances at Germany's most state-of-the-art media campus. With over 60 international artists, scientists and engineers from 15 countries, representing the best and brightest in the areas of audio engineering, sound design, sound art and electro-acoustic music, a rich exchange of ideas and information was on offer in nearly every audio-related field imaginable. Notable events included 3D/Immersive Audio Demonstrations, Tutorials and Discussions, Field Recording and Film Composing Workshops, Synthesizer Labs and Exhibitions, and Tutorials on Sound Art and Electronic Sounds.
Distinguished guests included AES President John Krivit, multichannel microphone legend Michael Williams, founding member and producer of legendary electropop bands Martyn Ware, and jazz legends Carla Bley and Steve Swallow. Other notable contributors included Ralph Kessler, who shortly after our symposium received an AES Fellowship at the 140th AES Convention in Paris, acclaimed sound artists Nicolas Collins and Felix Kubin, decorated film composer Christine Aufderhaar, and even the Hamburg Senator of Science, Katharina Fegebank, who officially opened the festivities. In addition to the scientific and artistic program, the "klingt gut! Student Awards" were awarded to students from Finland, Austria and Germany for outstanding works of sound art and sound design.
We are extremely pleased with the huge turnout and are equally excited to announce the official dates of klingt gut! 2017: June 8-10. Stay up-to-date by following us online and we look forward to seeing you next year at the Arts and Media Campus Hamburg!
