Meeting Location: Senju Campus, Tokyo University of the Arts, Tokyo, Japan
It is the sixth annual seminar which has been planned to held annually since 2010.
The seminar consists of 12 classes which covers most of areas on acoustics and audio technologies. in the seminar professionals give lectures which should be usually learned in universities as a special knowledge expertise.
This year, a total of 68 people attended the seminar, and 6 people joined AES this time.
The seminar has one master class which introduces latest technologies on acoustics and audio. This year, it was entitled "Sound Field Reproduction: Theory and Application". It was chaired by Dr. Masataka Nakahara from SONA Corp. / ONFUTURE Ltd, and three presenters introduced technologies for reproducing 3D sound field. Prof. Akira Omoto from Kyushu University firstly outlined reproduction scheme based on the physical principles. He introduced background of typical techniques such as Ambisonics, Wave Field Synthesis, and Boundary Surface Control techniques.
Subsequently, reproduction methods based on psychoacoustic methods were introduced. Mr. Kazuho Ono from NHKSTRL introduced concept and current situations of so-called 22.2-channel reproduction system, which will be practically introduced within several years. Finally, Mr. Hisayuki Nakayama from Dolby Japan talked about recent Object Based reproduction scheme, Dolby Atmos. These lectures are placed as a prologue of more thorough discussions at 4th AES Japan Conference 2015 in Nagoya "Future of 3D Audio", which would be held one week after this class.
