Secretary Austin on custom made drums, in collaboration with the lead interns of the Center for Recording Arts & Technology
Meeting Topic: Budget: The Past and The Future
Speaker Name: SWC Section Officers
Other business or activities at the meeting: After the recording collaboration with Southwestern's Recording Arts program, we decided to stay in the studio to discuss our future plans regarding upcoming meetings. Once we wrapped things up we decided to meet up with our advisor, Professor Henry, to discuss our budget issues.
Meeting Location: Southwestern College - Recording Arts Studio
One of our main focuses was to find ways to engage our members while still being educational. We have considered guest speakers, technical equipment demos, and educational videos/podcasts.
We have decided to introduce a small competition within the members, allowing for their creativity to be exposed. Since we are beginning our podcasts soon, we wanted to have a small introductory tune to accompany the section meeting. We will provide the members with a thirty second drum beat in order for them to add on their taste. We are also enforcing originality and to not alter the tempo of the provided drum beat. This is an opportunity for members to be in the spotlight and show off their skills, along with learning from the adjudicator (Professor Henry).
In regards to budget, we met up with Professor Henry to find a way to track expenses from the former years. This student section lacked a great deal of organization thus no budget reports were filed. Furthermore, the section was also not being updated in terms of member meetings, such as filing minutes. Our new officers are truly determined to change things around, seeing as we are all very ambitious with AES. We hope to bring this student section back on its feet, making San Diego a recognizable contributor.
