A system evaluation measure is introduced to help
optimize the loudspeaker arrangement for sound
image localization. Directional auditory tests were car-ried
out on twelve loudspeaker arrangements. The
results show that three of the twelve arrangements
yield excellent image localization. Furthermore, it is
confirmed that there is a strong correlation between
the system evaluation measure and the directional
auditory test results.
