The progress from surround sound to true 3-D audio
requires a more psychoacoustically complete depiction
of the audio environment. This paper defines an important
element of the interaction of sounding objects and
their environment, called ambient labelling information
by the authors. However, complex scenes can be cartooned
in order to preserve only perceptually significant
information and thus greatly simplifying rendering.
