Jacques Spillmann is a Product Designer with 20 years experience in the professional audio industry. He holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Belfort in France, now UTBM. He moved with his family to California in 2011 after a successful career designing loudspeakers for L-Acoustics. While there, as Head of Engineering and Design he conceived the mechanical design of the K1 loudspeaker system, which is currently considered the most installation-friendly and world’s best sounding loudspeaker for live concert venues.
More recently, as Manager of Mechanical Engineering at JBL Professional/Harman, Jacques led the JBL Professional Mechanical Engineering Group in designing the highest quality loudspeakers for the live audio market. He was key in developing the new JBL flagship of line array speakers VTX A series which incorporate his recently patented rigging system especially adapted to the demanding conditions of the touring industry.
Currently Jacques is applying his expertise as an independent design consultant. He collaborates with audio manufacturers and loudspeaker designers to bring innovative products to market while integrating his passion for music and sound. He is guided by a sensible design philosophy which requires reasonable use of resources and materials, designing with purpose and allowing the design to disappear while optimizing user experience.
