AES Milan 2018 Presenter or Author
Valentin Bauer
Primary Affiliation: Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) - Paris, France
Valentin Bauer graduated from the highly selective Advanced music production program of the Paris Conservatoire in November 2017 where he studied sound engineering. He is currently working as a sound engineer in several studios, and as a music consultant for the Toulouse Capitole National Orchestra. Introduced to 3D audio technology through BiLi, a multi-site research project on spatialized sound, and the work of sound engineers Jean-Marc Lyzwa and Jean-Christophe Messonier, Bauer acquired sound recording for spatialized music production skills and gained experience in binaural, transaural and object mixing. After two six-month internships in Radio France’s Quality and Innovation department with sound engineer Hervé Déjardin and at Babel studio with film-scoring composer Armand Amar, he defended his Master’s thesis entitled Musicians' binaural headphone monitoring for studio recording with honors, and presented his results during a talk in the Digital Music Research Network One-Day Workshop (DMRN+12) at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in December 2017. His research led him to develop a passion for multisensory therapeutic approaches using binaural sound in virtual reality applications. Parallel to his academic pursuits he achieved a radio broadcasting of his sound creation Unconscious cogs on the program Creation on Air (France Culture) on January 27th 2017, and composed the music for the Cinékids’s trailer (a program of Forum des Images) in August 2017.
