Shigeaki Aoki received the DE degrees from Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan, in 1985. In 1985, he joined the Electrical Communication Laboratories, of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT). Initially, he did research on a stereo teleconferencing system with good sound localization in a wide listening area. Later, he conducted a basic study of psychoacoustics, focusing on the precedence effect and temporary pitch perception, and studied acoustic designs for various kinds of teleconferencing. In 2000, he moved to the Media Technology Development Center, NTT Communications. He developed a web teleconferencing ASP system and a web e-learning ASP system. In 2003, he moved to the Human and Information Science Laboratory, NTT Communication Science Laboratories, where he researched an acoustical telepresence robot that transfers a sound environment in a remote place. Since 2007, he has been a Professor at Kanazawa Institute of Technology, where he is engaged in research on acoustical telepresence robots and stereo teleconferencing systems, and conducting basic studies of psychoacoustics and ultrasound.
