Previously Senior Vice-President Broadcast Engineering, iBiquity Digital Corporation (Successor to USA Digital Radio) - 1996-2003 where he was the visionary of concept, technical design, and economics of AM & FM In-Band On-Channel (IBOC) digital broadcasting system.
He wrote IBOC technical and regulatory specifications for a design team of 50 engineers, scientists and technicians who developed the IBOC system.
The development of the IBOC system focused on compatibility with the existing broadcast studio–to-transmitter chain and included a novel transition plan that allowed broadcasters to move from analog to digital broadcasting with minimal technical and economic disruptions to broadcasters and listeners.
He oversaw a comprehensive test program for evaluation of IBOC digital performance and compatibility with the existing broadcast facilities and submitted results to the National Radio Systems Committee (NRSC) regulatory body for review and subsequent approval.
Presented extensive results of interference studies and laboratory and field tests of the AM & FM IBOC systems to the NRSC, leading to the adoption of IBOC as the digital standard for AM & FM broadcasting.
Conducted tutorials, demonstrations and provided test results of IBOC technology to the FCC and members of Congress, which led to the FCC approval of IBOC.
He was awarded three patents on IBOC inventions and authored numerous papers and presentations on IBOC technical and business issues to industry groups and prospective investors.
