Since studying telecom engineering, and later working at Riga Technical University, Gints has participated in a variety of digital telecommunications projects, while maintaining parallel interest in sound and music related technologies.
In 1993 he joined the newly created Laboratory of Real-Time Systems at the University of Latvia, and in 2000, on the basis of forming then long-term relationship between the university lab and Telos Systems, joined the Livewire technology research and implementation project, which later resulted in the Axia audio networking system.
The Livewire experience led to participation in the networked audio interoperability task group of the AES SC, which produced the recently published AES67 standard.
