Kai Scheer, a freshman at the University of Washington, was born in Singapore and raised near Seattle on Vashon Island. There, he played as a bassist in a grunge band, Ten Cent Time Machine and became involved in numerous engineering projects. These projects included monthly open mics at his high school, shows at a local music venue: The Open Space, and a play titled Becky’s New Car. In his junior year, Kai met Bob Moses. Through Moses, Kai’s engineering career was brought to the next level as Moses mentored him, and introduced him to many inspirational producers and leaders in the music industry. One of these producers was Jason Staczek, who also mentored Kai in track comping and editing for the documentary Gold Balls.
Born as Kai Li, Kai has also recently gone through a process of becoming himself by realizing that his biological gender wasn't the one he identified with. After almost a year since coming out, Kai has found happiness and strength in his transition.
