Manuel Melon was born in Nancy, France, in 1969. He received a B.Sc. degree in 1990. He specialized in acoustics and obtained an M.Sc. degree in Le Mans, France, in 1992. In 1996 he received a Ph.D. degree for a thesis on the ultrasonic characterization of damping materials. After graduating he joined the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers) in Paris as an associate professor to teach acoustics to engineers. In 2014, he obtained a full professor position at the acoustic Laboratory of the Maine University in Le Mans where he is co-supervisor of the International Master Degree in ElectroAcoustics (IMDEA). His research works are in the fields of damping materials, nearfield acoustical holography, electroacoustics and signal processing. Dr. Melon was the treasurer of the French Acoustical Society (SFA) from 2004 to 2007 and is a member of the SFA electroacoustical group (GTEA) board.
